Containers
Maritime cargo is often transported in containers, in addition to bulk cargo. There are many types of containers, and their characteristics depend on their size, design, purpose, and the owner (shipowner).
- “40HC” is an abbreviation for “40-foot High Cube” – that is a container with a length of 40 feet (about 12.2 meters) and a height of 9.6 feet (2.9 meters).
- “20DV” / “20GP” – a 20-foot standard container with a length of 20 feet, which in the metric system of measurement is about 6.1 meters.
- “40DV” / “40GP”, which is a 40-foot standard container with a length of 40 feet, which in the metric system of measurements is about 12.2 meters.
Another division of containers is:
- Refeer – refrigerated containers,
- Open top – containers with an open roof,
- Hard top – container with open roof and wall
- Flat Rack – flat top containers, platform containers,
- And other specialized containers approved for shipping.
Each of these container types has its unique features and is tailored to specific applications and transportation needs.
